One of my many New Year's resolutions was to be less of an asshole--indeed, I even resolved to be nicer to people, believe it or not. Then again, I resolve that every year, and every year I've gotten precisely nowhere with such resolutions. Anyway, I was going to give it another shot this year until I read this: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060102/ap_on_el_pr/kerry2008.

Let's be clear about something: I will not vote for John Kerry in 2008. Nor will I vote for Hillary Clinton, Joe Lieberman, Evan Bayh or any other idiot that thinks the First Amendment is a tool that ought to be used in a bolt-for-the-center-tool against Republican candidates. Don't get me wrong, I fully support dirty campaigning against Republicans. I just don't think that the First Amendment should be freely trampled upon in the process.

And that brings me back to my point: I'm not voting for John Kerry in 2008 or ever again. In fact, I was downright ashamed to vote for him in 2004. Why? Here is a brief list: (1) voted for the war in Iraq; (2) is for civil unions for gay couples, but is totally against gay marriage--and, unbelievably, maintains that is a coherent position to take. I could list various other reasons, but you get the point.

If Democrats nominate Kerry in 2008--or someone like Clinton, who shares many of the same infirmities--I'm not voting Democrat. In 2004, because I think King George II is the worst thing that ever happened to life, I voted for Kerry. But, Democrats, take note: I'm not voting for shithead candidates in 2008 when I have other options. That's not to say I'm going to vote Republican, which will never happen. But, there are many, many other highly credible Democratic candidates available: Mark Warner, for instance, would easily win, in my view. Given that fact, if Democrats--and when I say Democrats, I mean "voters" in Iowa and New Hampshire--select either Kerry again (I think--nay, I hope--that's doubtful) or Clinton, I'm simply not voting Democrat. Perhaps I'll vote for a third party candidate. Or perhaps I'll send you clowns a message and stay home on election day and dress up like a clown. But this is it: our line in the sand. Those of us on the left-end of the party have had enough of this total bullshit.

Take the example of Howard Dean. Was Dean a liberal? God no. He was pro-death penalty, pro-gun, pro-killing Mexicans, and so on. I'm not exactly sure if he was pro-killing Mexicans, but you get the picture. Why, then, was he so briefly popular? The answer is clear: he opposed the war. For a split second, "Democrats" on the left--who don't believe in indiscriminantely slaughtering Arabs, believe it or not--thought there was a candidate who spoke to them on at least one single issue. So it's that easy, evidently: at least toss us a bone. But, if you give us Hillary Clinton or John Kerry--terrible candidates who are now essentially Republicans--I, for one, am not voting for your broke-ass party anymore.

So here we are, 2006, now. This is a year where Democrats should completely wipe the floor with every Republican candidate who is up for re-election. Incidentally, the same was true in 2002. Yet, why do I get the feeling, as in 2002, that Democrats will totally blow this? Maybe because the people who run this party are incompetent half-wits. Maybe because the electorate is even dumber than I think they are. Maybe because it really is time for the Democratic party, finally, to die and have something better take its place. I don't know; but one thing I know for absolutely certain: I will never cast a vote for John Kerry again.

"breathtaking insanity"

I remembered to create this blog just now as I was reading the NYTimes editorial regarding a recent district court ruling on "intelligent design" (ID).
